Motion Vs Action
Having a goal is essential in business, but maintaining focus to achieve that goal is equally important. Often, there needs clarity about what to prioritise first: setting a goal or establishing a system.
Many spend considerable time planning and setting goals without taking the necessary actions to achieve them. It’s easier to sit down and write a business plan than to take the first step toward action.
Many clients mistakenly believe that planning itself is an action toward their goal. In reality, planning alone doesn’t move us closer to our goals; it’s the actions we take that drive progress.
Why Productivity Is Crucial
Productivity is directly tied to our actions to move closer to our business goals. For example, planning the number of calls to make daily does not advance us toward our sales goals.
However, picking up the phone and speaking to prospects does. Similarly, spending hours in meetings to brainstorm plans doesn’t directly move us closer to our goals.
Instead, the actionable steps that make a difference are creating and launching a product with a PR marketing campaign.
Our focus should be engaging with prospects who can make purchases and generate revenue.
The Importance of Action Over Planning
While planning and goal setting are important, taking action should be the main priority for achieving high productivity. The challenge lies in maintaining consistent action, even when we feel unmotivated. This is where systems come into play.
The Role of Systems in Sustaining Productivity
On days when we feel unmotivated, we often resort to mindlessly scrolling through social media for a quick dopamine fix. This is when the systems we’ve set up become crucial to maintaining momentum.
For example, committing to making 30 calls daily and tracking progress trains our brains to act regardless of our mood.
Similarly, writing 100 words or one page daily and tracking our progress keeps us productive even when we don’t feel like it.
These systems ensure we consistently take the minimum necessary actions to move the needle in the right direction.
Simplify. Systemize. Succeed.
